What Is Trauma?
Trauma is an emotional response to a disturbing or distressing event that overwhelms a person's ability to cope. The physical injury may be bruised, but the secondary trauma may have lasting effects on mental, physical, and emotional health. The wounds of physical trauma may eventually heal, but the unseen wounds of emotional or psychological trauma can last a lifetime, resulting in emotionally disabling conditions. The long-term effects include sleeping disorders, flashbacks, extreme tension and anxiety, depression, drug and alcohol addictions, eating disorders, self-injury, and suicide. Too many people are suffering from past traumas, believing nothing can be done when there is help.
Research has revealed that chronic stress results in mental, physical, and emotional health fatigue. Our society is suffering needlessly, and unless the issue is addressed, this culture will continue to endure; creating another generation of victims who believe there is 'nothing that can be done' when in essence, the available healing is not only mandatory for a healthy existence but necessary for a whole generation who are deserving. Holistic healing is available and, many times, right within their community.
